To the Revd the Minister of Plympton St. Mary

Chanter 232B, 514

  1. Residence, curate and lecturer: My Lord,
I hold a <perpetual> curacy under the church of Windsor & receive the sum of £39 13s 4d a year for performing the duty of an extensive parish the tythes of which are let for near 600 a year; there is not a house of any kind belonging to me as minister of the parish, but I am obliged to pay near 14 pounds annually out of my stipend, for a dwelling house.

  2. Other benefices: I have no living, or benefice of any kind.

  3. Divine service at other churches: No - sometimes at a private Chapel belonging to Mr Parker of Saltram.

  4. Frequency of divine service: Twice a day.

  5. Frequency of communion: 8 times a year. twice at Christmas. Easter. Whitsuntide & Michaelmas. I believe the number of communicants may be between 20 & 30 at a time though it is uncertain.

  6. Catechising of children: Always in Lent previous to Easter - & at other seasons of the year.

  7. Church fabric: The church & chancel appear to be well kept & every <thing> decent for service. It is customary for the Church & poor wardens to manage the whole.

  8. Glebe terrier: I know nothing of this, as I have neither Glebe nor house.

  9. Number of families: I can't tell exactly as the parish is very large & three or four Villages are situated in it. I will endeavour to find out.

  10. Chapels: No chapel of ease - a private one there is, built for a Gentlemans own family.

  11. Papists, dissenters and meeting houses: Not that I know of - I am sure there are none.

  12. School, alms-houses, hospital and charitable endowments: An Alms house there is - no Library nor any of the above mentioned foundations.

  13. Charity: None I believe.

Priest's orders and institution: I was ordained Priest last Trinity Sunday at Oxford & was licensed to my Curacy last April at Exeter. I have the honour to be your Lordships most obedient humble Servant G Crossman - Minister of Plympton St Mary Devon.
